15 October 2018: Hundredth anniversary of Shirdi Sai Baba

On 15 October 2018 it will be 100 years ago that Shirdi Sai Baba left his body. Although he has appeared to people many times since that day in his original form, he can no longer be visited in that form. He announced his departure to his devotees, but at the same time promised that he would always be near.

"You will hear my bones speak to guide you’

On 3 October 1918 Purandare came to Baba. Baba told him: ‘Child, I will continue and you will follow me. "He gave him Udi. Because Baba foresaw Purandare would react strongly to his departure, he sent him home in time. Purandare so loved Baba that he regarded him as his own life's breath. Baba told him also:

"Believe me,, although I leave, my bones in my tomb will give you hope and faith. Not just myself, but also my samadhi (tomb) from now on will speak to those who surrender themselves completely to me. Do not be afraid that I will leave you. You will hear my bones speak to guide you. My name will answer as well. Think always of me, believe in me with heart and soul, then you will receive the greatest blessings.'

Because Baba always talked like this, Purandare did not understand the significance of these words or what Baba meant by them. Baba was not ill at the time and therefore Purandare did not expect that he would die. With Baba's permission, he left for home.
On 15 October no-one could find Baba. Four devotees went looking for him. They were looking in a nearby well, because they feared that he had fallen into it, but when they got back to the mosque, they saw him standing there. Baba asked : 'Where are you looking? I'm in one place and you look elsewhere. I am in all pure hearts, but you look in contaminated places. How can you ever find Me?’
Then he sat down.

Will you be with us in our next lives as well?

In 1918 Mr. and Mrs. Tarkhad and Jyotindra came to Shirdi to be with Baba. At that time, Baba's fame was widespread and people flocked in droves to request him worldly things. Baba became irritated at seeing the crowds and told Mrs. Tarkhad: 'Mother, I am much bothered lately. Everyone asks me for riches, a job, a marriage, health and children, but nobody asks me what I own and what I really have to offer. I've been waiting a long time and I loathe it. For that reason I will disappear one day.' Mrs. Tarkhad listened to these words sadly . 'What is it, Baba? Why do you talk like this? What will become of us if you disappear? Who will take care of us?' she said. Baba immediately replied: "Why would you worry about that? Really, I enjoy protecting my devotees and I will always be with them. But I'd be happy if they would ask me the right things.' Jyotindra answered: 'Baba, We have come here to receive what you want to give us. Don't you know that?' Baba said: ' Yes, I know. You'll get it, too.' Mr. Tarkhad was happy when he heard this and said,: 'Baba, We believe in your words. But when will I get it?' 'Very soon. ' 'After how many lives?'There are still three lives necessary.' 'Baba, if that is so, will you be with us in those lives?' 'Why not? I have been so many lives with you, We will definitely continue to meet each other again. I am guarding my children every moment with the utmost care. I can not let them be ruined.' When he had said this, he blessed them and gave them the sacred food that is called bliss.

Download photos of Shirdi Sai Baba in very high resolution! NL EN

In Dutch (English below):

This week I received an interesting email from Pune in India. A reader of this blog, Debashish genaamd, which I already sent a number of original photos of Shirdi Sai Baba in high resolution, sent me the following email:

Beste Satrughna,
I hope you remember me. It's Debashish again with an original photograph of Sai Baba in very high resolution. I found this picture in a junk shop in Pune. Or let me put it this way: This is so far the only full picture of Shirdi Sai Baba sitting on the stone in high resolution available on the internet.
I request you to post it on your website and share it with other Sai devotees.
Yours sincerely,
Debashish

This week I received an interesting email from Pune, India. A reader of this blog named Debashish, who had earlier sent me some high resolution versions of some well known photos of Shirdi Sai Baba, sent me the following email:

Dear Satrughna,
Hope you recognize me. Its Debashish here again with a very high resolution original photograph of Sai Baba. I found this photograph at a scrap seller shop in Pune. It was a small 4” x 6 ” photograph attached to an iron wall with a rusty magnet. I requested the shop owner (a Sai bhakta) to give me the photograph, promised him a bigger and better print of the same and he agreed. Then I got it scanned at a very high resolution, and did a lot of photo-fixing using other available prints of the same photograph that I had. By the grace of Sai Baba at the end of two months, the end result was fabulous, as is evident… Or let me put it this way that this one is the only high resolution complete photograph of Shirdi Sai Baba sitting on stone available on line till date.
I request you to put it in your site and share it with other Sai bhakta.
Regards,
Debashish

The promises of Shiva and Parvati-the advent of Shirdi Sai

Shiva and Parvati appear to announce the birth of Shirdi Sai Baba. Read more on the website https://7dagenshirdisai.nlOn 28 September 1835 (or according to many others 1838) Shirdi Sai Baba was born to Gangabhavadya and Devagiriamma, a ferryman and his wife. In the book "Seven days Shirdi Sai’, the biography of Shirdi Sai Baba in Dutch, in chapter 1 is told how Shiva and Parvati come to test the dedication of Devagiriamma and then bless her.

Below is an excerpt from that chapter:

' The old man and the newly arrived woman were none other than the divine couple Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva. Shiva said: ‘Parvati, fulfill the deepest desires of this woman,' to which Parvati replied: 'You are the Supreme. Please let your grace descend upon her.' But Shiva said: 'I came to test her, you came in answer to her prayers. Therefore, it is up to you to bless her. '

Again there was a knock on the door. This time Devagiriamma opened the door without trepidation, because there was another woman present. Before her stood Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva in their divine appearance. She could not contain her joy and knelt at their feet. Parvati said: 'My child, Shiva came to test you. I have come in response to your prayers. Therefore ask me for any grace and I'll grant it to you.' Devagiriamma was so overjoyed that she couldn't think of anything to ask, so the goddess Parvati blessed her and said,: 'My child, you have everything in your life except children. Therefore, I will give you a son who will bring honor to your line and a daughter too, so you can build up good karma by giving her away in marriage.' Shiva added,: 'Mother, I am very pleased with your devotion. I myself will be born as your third child.' And even before Devagiriamma could get up, the divine couple disappeared. narrated by Sathya Sai Baba-

Eventually Devagiriamma would indeed give birth to three children, and the third is the one that later becomes known as Sai Baba of Shirdi. In a speech at Gurupurnima in the year 1963 Sathya Sai Baba told that this happened as a result of the promise that Shiva and Parvati had given thousands of years earlier to Sage Bharawaja:

'At the most appropriate time Bharadwaja held the ritual blessing under Shakti's supervision, and after its completion Shiva and Shakti were so pleased that they gave away more favors to the sage. Shiva promised him that they would both take the human form and would be born in the Bharadwaja line thrice: Shiva alone as Shirdi Sai Baba, Shiva and Shakti together in Puttaparthi as Sathya Sai Baba, and later Shakti alone as Prema Sai Baba.’

Swami Gopala Krishna dedicates the statue of Shirdi Sai Baba

Swami Gopala Krishna inaugurating Shirdi Sai Baba statue in OnderdijkPratisthapana of Shirdi Statue by Swami Gopala Krishna Baba-3-
Shirdi Sai Baba statue replacement Tablet
On Monday the 11 th of August 2014 the white marble statue of Shirdi Sai Baba in the Sri Sai Mandiram in Onderdijk, the Netherland, was inaugurated by Swami Gopala Krishna with a lot of attention, love and care. This ceremony, called Pratisthapana, brings the statue to life, which from that moment on means Shirdi Sai Baba is actually present in the temple.

I felt enormously privileged that I was allowed to attend this. Swami Gopala Krishna himself is a great saint, directly from the line of Shirdi Sai Baba. That he personally initiates this statue will help the devotees in future centuries enormously in their devotion to Shirdi Sai Baba.Swami Gopala Krishna Baba decorating the statue of Shirdi Sai Baba in Onderdijk

A book with content

young Shirdi Sai Baba in front of Dhuni (colour)

The young Shirdi Sai Baba near his Dhuni (sacred fire)

Recently I asked the readers of the book their reactions and experiences. But my own story shouldn't be omitted here.

One day there were so many expensesall at once that I'd run all out of funds, when also a major expense to the car arrived. All the reserves were spent and we had no money for groceries for the next few days, and we were wondering how my wife had to drive to work if we coudn't fill up the gas.

Now this is not the first time something like this comes along, and we don't panic anymore when this happens. So far each time everything came out alright in the end. We are confident that Baba will take care of us. Doen't he say himself: "In the house of my devotee there will never be want of food or clothing '? And to Dixit he said: "Why worry if I'm here to carry your load?"But this time it was really a miracle of Shirdi Sai.

Swami Gopala Krishna

I woke up on a Sunday morning, and stayed in bed for a little reading in the book "Seven Days Shirdi’. Although Imyself translated it and I thoroughly know all the stories, it often helps me to get things clear again or to 'tune in'. Also Swami Gopala Krishna said, when blessing of the book, to all those present that the book can be consulted when in any doubt or for questions. Take your question in mind, ask it to Baba, and open the book. You will definitely get your answer. This is an experience that I already got confirmed many times.

After I had read a piece, I put a thin book between the pages to remember where I was, just to go to the bathroom. On my return, I saw something vaguely orange between the book. I thought: "How strange, that book was blue, wasn't it?’ I put on my glasses, and saw there were two notes of 50 euros between the book, and that the book was lying there opened on the page with the Blessing of Shirdi Sai Baba!

My wife thought at first I was kidding her when I told her. But no. I'm almost a hundred percent sure that I never hid one hundred euros in the book, and anyhow, I am very grateful for Baba's help and care. The more that happens, the easier it is to stay calm in tense times!

Read the book? Write a Review!

book-Zeven-dagen-Shirdi-SaiOn this blog I regularly write a story about Shirdi Sai Baba and related issues. This way I share what I have learned from him to readers. Until now there has been no possibility here, however, for readers to share their experiences with Shirdi Sai Baba and with the book "Seven Days Shirdi’ Sai.

This therefore is an appeal to all readers of the book: Do you have something to say about the book, learned something or experienced something in relation to the book, or have you experienced something related to Shirdi Sai Baba and therefore advise others to read the book, and so get to know him, then write a comment! It may be something from your own experience, a response to a message, a story that touched you, or a review of the book, or whatever else you want to mention.

For me it is good to know how readers respond to the story of Shirdi Sai Baba. It can help me with translations in the future, and it helps me to take a new look at familiar stories. Everyone derives different lessons from a text and applies it his or her own way.
